Remember these very, very old songs? 'Thought it sounded
more like "us" and how it was like in high school...
Batang-bata ka pa at marami ka pang
kailangang malaman at intindihin sa mundo.
Yan ang totoo.
Nagkakamali ka, kung akala mo na
ang buhay ay isang mumunting
paraiso lamang.
Batang-bata ka lang at akala mo na
na alam mo na ang lahat ng kailangan
mong malaman.
Buhay ay di ganyan.
Tanggapin mo na lang ang katotohanan
na ikaw ay isang musmos lang
na wala pang alam.
Makinig ka na lang.
May ibong kakanta-kanta
sa sanga ng punong mangga,
ang awit kay tamis-tamis,
ang tunog kay saya-saya,
sa himig na kabit-kabit
ang diwa ay mahalaga:
ang buhay mo raw
giginhawa rin kung masipag ka!
Magsimula ka,
batiin ang kay gandang umaga
Nang may ngiti sa iyong mga mata
Sa pagkakaidlip, gumising na!
Ang buhay ay masaya,
palalampasin mo ba?
Iisa lang ang buhay mo,
kumilos ka, gamitin mo
Kung
may nais ang puso mo,
mangarap ka, abutin mo
Upang ito'y makamit mo,
magsikap ka, simulan mo!
Ikaw
ang mahal ko
(Novaliches High School),
ikaw ang
mahal kong,
tunay na tunay.
Ang laging
panaginip ko'y
tanging ikaw.
Ngunit ang totoo'y
madalas mong
mapag-alinlanganan
ang puso kong
tapat sa
pagsintang
di mo alam

Mrs. Teresita S. Canon, our dearest class adviser who
followed us from first to fourth year (which made our class
and experimental class) |
 |
Our
graduation in Araneta Coliseum when we didn’t have the
chance to go up the stage to receive our diploma |
 |
Our
Physics Class when most of us were eating and copying each
other’s notes when
Mrs. Valeros was not around |
 |
The
red rose which we oftentimes see on top of somebody’s chair
with a short greeting |
 |
The
flying eraser thrown by an English teacher to two class busy
bodies but landed on somebody else’s cheeks |
 |
The
song that goes “If I give my heart to you..” which sealed
for a cadet officer the bet to win a fried chicken over a
challenge by a Spanish teacher that he can’t woo this girl… |
 |
The
prettiest teachers around,
Misses De Guzman and Casabar,
when boys would daydream and wish being grown-ups already to
be a perfect match to them only to find themselves having to
remain standing for not being able to answer in the
recitation |
 |
The
final examination when it was announced by Mrs Canon
that the top ten students be exempted only to be
contradicted by
Mr Sta Maria
that they should take
it.. and exempted they were, due to shortage of test papers |
 |
One of
the best orators in school when his name was nominated for
every available position for the homeroom organization- from
President to Sgt-at-arms- only to end up losing in each..
resulting to challenge to a fistfight with his unofficial
campaign manager. |
 |
Those
neatly ironed, starched maroon, skirts and khaki pants, that
could stand on their own without wearing..
ask M. Zuniga,
C. Paje, P. Sarmiento, D Franco and company how they did
it.. |
 |
The
“hanging faucet” in the Physics Fair which won for
D
Nicolas and groupmates the first place for their
ingenuity and resourcefulness.. the principle behind is now
widely used to decorate homes and buildings. |
 |
The
“barrio fiestas” in nearby towns when one whole class would
cut classes just to attend the feast only to be doubly
disappointed.. when they were served with broiled duck that
was so hard one would need all his strength just to have a
bite and when everybody learned that they were in hot water
back in school finding their adviser waiting in the
principal’s office. |
 |
Those
classes when most of us would almost doze off (some really
did) when our teacher lectured like
Kuya Cesar.. |
 |
The
“GRADUATES”, not the movie but the group of
L.
Parongenable, P Sarmiento, R. Madrigal, P. Bartolome, L.
Bartolome, and D. Franco
when they performed in the
noontime TV show “Stop, look, and listen” only to see them
singing at the end of the program while title credits are
being shown without having to finish their song on the air |
 |
The
adventurous group who went to audition for a TV Quiz Show
that went so late the host, Pepe Pimentel, felt obliged to
treat them for dinner.. and they got sardines for the main
course but nevertheless, one ended up winning in the program
proper. |
 |
The
Novaliches Public Cemetery which had been the favorite arena
for numerous fistfights when tempers ran short.. only to
fine one or both protagonists absent from class for the next
few days due to black eyes |
 |
The
phrase “ Do you want to be suspended” song to the tune of
“Do you want to know a secret” which reminded us of the PE
teacher who used to threaten us with suspension he was
honored with the song with this name in the chorus part as a
reply… |
 |
The
phrase “Dos ratones entro la cueva” and the Spanish teacher
who asked the more reserved, prim and proper girls to
translate it into English causing boisterous laughter from
the boys |
 |
The
bonfire on the school grounds which spawned numerous love
affairs that died down as soon as the flames faded in the
night.. only to be rekindled in the next party.. |
 |
The
“balete tree” with all its benches on the school grounds
which ranks with the library as a favorite tryst for would
be young lovers.. only to be caught by the the preying eyes
of the PE teachers…. |

Come walk with us down memory lane, and for a
little while, we'll linger in the sunshine
life's happy smile...the joys, the sorrows, the
hopes and dreams that we've shared with our Alma
Mater are the things we cannot just leave
behind.

FIRST YEAR
THE YEAR OF INNOCENCE
There were justifiable pride amongst us, after
all, we were high schoolers weren't we? Lots of
excitement...new faces were seen. Some even with
their mamas and papas still...our books were
quite thick and often heavy. We even sweated in
going up and down the building carrying our
books. We were taught how to speak and write in
English fluently...some adjustments took place
in this year like having new teachers and
encountering new subjects. In the end, we
believe that it's not the winner who wins, but
how we played the game.
SECOND YEAR
THE YEAR OF BITTERSWEET MEMORIES
Another year for us to strive harder. And
whether we like it or not, we had to tackle our
books again. It was Biology that we learned the
anatomy of human body and parts of animals and
flowers under the guidance of our Science
teacher, who's patient enough in teaching
us...not to mention developing the gift of gab
in Speech Improvement thru the help of our able
English teachers. Then Elementary and
Intermediate Algebra were introduced to us,
although rather complicated because of the
Algebraic formulas and equations, we found them
mind stimulating and rather challenging. And
since we were taught well and the subjects
explained clearly, the difficulties we
encountered were slowly abated.
THIRD YEAR
THE YEAR OF CRUCIBLE
By half of June, we were juniors. Practically
everyone in the know told us that third year is
quite a difficult one. We came face to face with
Geometry for the first time which was all about
theorems and axioms, statements and facts.
Chemistry which includes experiments and problem
solving. Both were difficult to understand
but we tried our best to gain knowledge on these
subjects. And we found this interesting 'coz our
teacher was totally talented in amusing us. Home
Economics widen our knowledge about ahh!..sex
and family life. Social Studies taught us
history and other nations, the aspects of trade,
government expenditures, money and banking,
profits, savings and investments in Economics
class...Having gone thru all those exams and
sleepless nights trying to finish our home works
and projects, don't you think it's one of our
best year after all?
FOURTH YEAR
THE YEAR OF GLORY
At last we were seniors. Oftentimes, thoughts of
leaving our alma mater would come to us. We
prided ourselves with the fact that we were the
upper classmen and the model of the lower years.
This year marked the start of serious study. It
could not be otherwise as we all looking forward
with eagerness and expectancy to graduation day.
We found ourselves filling our minds with
historical data in world history. In
Trigonometry, we learned to be more prudent in
our computations to avoid errors, in Physics we
learned to be good analysts to understand the
subject perfectly. By mid July, we began
reviewing in preparation for our NCEE. Sermons,
lectures, reminders came simultaneously from our
teachers who displayed different emotions, that
when being interpreted comes up with only one
conclusion - that they love and truly care for
us.
And now the moment we had been waiting for has
already arrived. It was our graduation day - a
glorious day for all of us. Our feelings in that
particular day were a mixture of joys, sorrows
and hopes. Our parents, misty-eyed with gladness
stood proudly in seeing us walk along the
hallway. There we were, ready to receive our
diplomas, the reward for our patient toil and
labor of love.
Graduation day and school days have come to an
end before we realized it. We were fully aware
of a bright future shall traverse into this
confusing world. It's high time to prove, that
we, nurtured by our parents loving care and
affection have learned much and are thus
prepared for the worst...
Our high school memories did not end on our
graduation day. It goes on till the last drop of
rain, till the last snow has fallen...Till the
last ray of sun is seen. Our high school spirit
is there when wind gets cold, when the going
gets rough, we will find love and affection we
once had, then our hearts shall be strong and
renewed once again...
