Top 10 Excuses Not
to Attend Your
High School Reunion
(and why you should go
anyway...)
1. I have to work.
(Get time off –
if they won’t allow it
then you might as well quit!
Guess there’s no point
in staying…)
2. The kids are in school.
(They won't mind if you
go without them.)
3. I didn't like you then,
why would I like you now?
(We've changed! )
4. I prefer to remember
the class the way we were.
(We haven't changed a bit)
5. My tastes have matured.
(Don’t worry we'll make sure
to hire
The Booze Stop Bar
to do the trick!)
6. I was a loser in
high school.
(Then nobody remembers
- here's your second
chance to make a great
first impression)
7. I haven't lived up
to my potential.
(Whatever)
8. I've gained weight.
(You're not the only one -
don't worry there is not
going to be a
swimsuit competition)
9. I'm on the NBI’s
"Most Wanted" list.
(Don't worry - we have a
strict "Don't Ask, Don't Tell
Policy - what happens at
the reunion stays
at the reunion)
10. I'm in denial about
being out of high school
20 years.
(If you'd like,
we'll tell everyone you
didn't graduate yet.)

Bimonthly Update As of
04/30/05:
Administrator's Notes:
By Chona Villafuerte-Go
NHS Batch 1986
Website Administrator
Welcome once again to our Bimonthly Update
as of
April 30, 2005.
Thanks to everyone
for your continued support in promoting our NHS Alumni On-line Community
website to family, friends and even your co-workers! To all the new
members joining us for their first Update - Welcome!! You are a great
addition to our On-line Community and we look forward to working with
you to achieve our On-line Community's goals. Past updates are also
archived online for those who'd like to read them again.
Mother's Day this
year is this Sunday, May 8th 2005.
And to
all the moms here at NHS Alumni On-line Community (that includes me),
Happy Mothers' Day! This is our special day where we get rewarded
for all the time we have spent in our lives reminding and making sure
that all of the family birthdays, Christmas, Fathers' Day, and all the
other important days in our families' lives are properly acknowledged &
celebrated. We truly deserve this day! We have earned it!
"A Story of Mother's Day"
A Special Tribute To all Mothers And Grandmothers of the World...
The
earliest Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring
celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods.
During the 1600's, England celebrated a day called
"Mothering
Sunday".
Celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period
leading up to Easter*), "Mothering Sunday" honored the mothers
of England.
During
this time many of the England's poor worked as servants for the wealthy.
As most jobs were located far from their homes, the servants would live
at the houses of their employers. On Mothering Sunday the servants would
have the day off and were encouraged to return home and spend the day
with their mothers. A special cake, called the mothering cake,
was often brought along to provide a festive touch.
In
the United States Mother's Day was first suggested in 1872 by Julia
Ward Howe (who wrote the words to the Battle hymn of the Republic)
as a day dedicated to peace. Ms. Howe would hold organized Mother's Day
meetings in Boston, Mass ever year.
In
1907 Ana Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to
establish a national Mother's Day. Ms. Jarvis persuaded her mother's
church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day on the second
anniversary of her mother's death, the 2nd Sunday of May. By the next
year Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia.
Ms.
Jarvis and her supporters began to write to ministers, businessman, and
politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother's Day. It was
successful as by 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state.
President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the
official announcement proclaiming Mother's Day as a national holiday
that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May.
While
many countries of the world celebrate their own Mother's Day at
different times throughout the year, there are some countries such as
Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, Belgium & the Philippines which also
celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May.
As
Christianity spread throughout Europe the celebration changed to honor
the
"Mother Church" - the spiritual power that gave them life
and protected them from harm. Over time the church festival blended with
the Mothering Sunday celebration . People began honoring their mothers
as well as the church.
Whatever the story goes,
the second Sunday in May
has become the most popular day of the year to celebrate Mother's Day
all over the world. It's the only day - Mother's Day, where hard-working
moms have a fighting chance at breakfast in bed. Telephone companies
record their highest traffic as kids away from home call their mothers
-- to greet them presumably on her special day.
From NHS Alumni On-line Community we would like to wish every mother and
grandmother a happy
Mother's Day.
WORDS OF WISDOM FOR TODAY'S UPDATE
"Better to make a
net than to yearn for fish at the edge of the pond. " --
Chinese Proverbs
It is easy to
stand at the edge of our yearnings and wish for those things seemingly
beyond our reach. However, in order to attain what we desire, we must be
resourceful and find the means to grasp it with both hands.
Here at NHS
Alumni On-line Community we really hope that your net will be
continually filled of the fishes, which bring you nothing but happiness.
This concludes another Update.
I do enjoy hearing from you. Any comments, suggestions and/or ideas are
always appreciated. So drop me a line at nhsqcadministrator@verizon.net
or nhsqcalumni@verizon.net
Until next time, take care and again thank you all for your continued
support!

Subject: Re: a request
Hi
Chona!
I
want to thank you for granting me my request regarding my old classmates'
email addresses... I am now getting in touch with old friends and
classmates, some of whom are Roger Fabian, Art Pagar, Aris Extra and
Hernalyn de Leon-Black just sent me an email...
Incidentally, I just checked the new members' list and I saw names of
other classmates sisters/brothers... Lucia Bayona I think is the youngest
sister of my classmate Cecilia Bayona, Santos Godornes is also the brother
of former classmate Rowena Godornes, Angie Tugano-Gemmill is the older
sister of Amalia Tugano, also a former classmate until the third year
because they moved ot Australia. If you could ask them for any
information that they could share so that we could communicate with each
other again, we will surely appreciate the effort.
By
the way, I am also forwarding other information to our other claasmates
since Hernalyn, Roger and Art are all in California. They might find
their way to each others' homes.
Thank you very much... May God richly bless you and your family.

NHS DONATION
SPECIAL UPDATE:
(Author: Chona
Villafuerte-Go)
"Received a lot of e-mails from
members of our On-line Community
even from those
who were not able
to graduate from NHS (reason of
course was they moved or
transferred to another school)
pledging their support to help out NHS but many
can't send their
donations in time for this year's
Recognition day. Again,
Thank YOU
so much!! A lot of them also asked
for additional information or what
our school needs to improve upon
or make donations to and so I have
asked our
current NHS
Administration & also our Guidance
Personnel to inform us of their
on-going projects or current needs
so we can help them out.
(Currently, I'm waiting for other
e-mail from NHS Administration and
i'll be posting
them here also.)
Special thanks to Mr. Gilore E.
Ofrancia for his immediate
response
and the following are
some answers to our questions
regarding making a donation to
NHS.
FYI Mr. Gilore E. Ofrancia is our
current NHS Guidance personnel."

Special Thanks to Mike Bote Batch
1999, Norman A. Garcia Batch 1993
& Edward Logan Batch

for sending their donations to NHS
Recognition Day. The money they have
donated will be used as cash
prizes to all 19 NHS honor students for
Graduating Class of 2005. Thank
YOU Mike, Norman & Edward for lending a
helping hand...We'll join all of
you soon!

the form of government
from
presidential to parliamentary
where the head of government is
the prime minister.
