An assumption is often made that those who lead, do so
naturally
out of an inborn set of attributes which hardly leave a choice
saying "Leaders are born, not made.
That leadership is a gift, like music, may be obvious." Yet,
it also can't be denied that the effectiveness in leading where an
inborn talent may already be there still awaits for the development
of needed skills.
Our current Guidance Counselor/ICT Coordinator/APEC ICT MSN Teacher in Novaliches High School (also our NHSOC Feb '06 MOD/Inside NHSOC Counseling MOD) Mr. Gilore Estrada Ofrancia, no doubt has the leadership gene mapped somewhere in his genome and has confidently developed the skills to lead. Indeed, the phrase "natural-born leader" seems coined expressly for Gilore, who has assumed leadership positions throughout his education, career and personal life.
This Novaliches High School graduate Class of 1995 was awarded QC Mayor Special
Citation
for Leadership, Best in Social Studies, Outstanding Student Leader,
Home Builder of the Year and Cadet Officer of the Year. True enough,
at
an early age, he had already shown the marks of a brilliant future
-- the intelligence, the drive and commitment.
In college, interested in many areas, once in his new environment, he was also engaged in a lot of activities, acting as: Student Juror in 1997-1998 PNU Student Government;
Chairperson from 1998-1999 PNU Student Government Executive Body;
Representative from 1999-2000 PNU Student Government Legislative
Body and President from 2000-2001 PNU Psychological Society. As
Student Leader and Outstanding Student in Psychology, Mr. Ofrancia graduated
cum Laude with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Psychology minor in
Social Science at Philippine Normal University, Manila. Also at the
same university - PNU's College of Graduate Studies, he completed
his Master's Degree in Guidance & Counseling with 15 units in School
Psychology.
In 2001, shortly after
college graduation, he worked Part-Time at Our Lady of Lourdes
Technological College in Novaliches as an Instructor in Psychology,
Philosophy, Statistics, Logic, and Social Philosophy to college
students majoring in Psychology, Education and Criminology.
Currently he is working as NHS ICT Coordinator, APEC ICT MSN Teacher &
Guidance Counselor III. Mr. Ofrancia also helps
coordinate assessment, registration and testing activities for all
students with special cases like family adjustment, coping academic
skills and provides individual and group counseling with primary
focus on self-esteem enhancement, anger management, drug awareness,
peer mediation, career/vocation counseling, personality adjustment,
and enhancement of academic skills. He serves as a lecturer and
guest speaker in various academic and curricular functions. And for
those not in the know, in the Principal's absence, Mr. Ofrancia, as a
Guidance Counselor holds the responsibility of handling student
disciplinary problems in some occasion. Certainly,
he is an articulate communicator able to effectively interact with
diverse population of students at a variety of academic levels, and
his enthusiasm is definitely contagious.
Like
many wonderful leaders, when the opportunity to make a big
difference is sufficiently compelling, he willingly risks stepping
forward as a leader. In fact, for three years since 1999, he was the Chairman
of the Board for Capri Youth Federation, Inc. Bgy Capri in
Novaliches Quezon City. And right now, Mr. Ofrancia is also
affiliated with Amnesty International Pilipinas Section in Kamias
Quezon City as Board Treasurer; Assistant Secretary Central Students
Organization
at PNU; President Psychology, Guidance, Values and Child Study
Students Organization also at PNU and Press Relation Officer
Novaliches High School Faculty/Non-Teaching Personnel Club.
Yet, with all his accolades, it seemed that it may have taken some time for him to
be
comfortable viewing himself as somebody else's role model. But now,
it finally looks like he very well embraces the idea. Married to his high
school sweetheart Rosemary Ely, who is as equally intelligent herself
graduating with honors, after few years of marriage, they are now blessed with the birth of
their first-born son Cedric Harry (named after the great wizard
himself, Harry Potter), just few days before Christmas, in 2005.
Leadership,
I'm sure you can all agree with me now, that in the case of Mr.
Ofrancia, is just an
ordinary people with extraordinary commitment who are willing to
relentlessly take the necessary actions to deliver. In-born or not,
the problem with the "great person" approach was that, not all
inherited leaders were capable. In fact, with Mr. Ofrancia and as in
all great
leaders,
from being ordinary people,
believing passionately in what they are doing, and
why they are doing it, they became surefire "unstoppable
leaders". Mr. Gilore Estrada Ofrancia, our very own
NHS pride -- Batch of 1995, is not only a wonderful role model
and a family man, he certainly makes a big difference in Novaliches
High School, as an
accomplished guidance specialist with demonstrated ability to teach,
motivate, and direct students.
2005 pROJECTS & PROGRAMS
This exemplifies all the works and efforts of the guidance and
counseling staff in preparing and equipping each and every student of
Novaliches High School.
The guidance and counseling office yearly updates its living guidance
program to address the increasing demands of students in this fast
ever-changing society.
At present, it focuses its goals in addressing issues and concerns of
the students -from academic down to personal and co-curricular areas.
It also encompasses other techniques in handling guidance cases in
various ways.
For instance, once when it fell behind the standards - reconstructing
its components was then in process. The guidance office has launched
the following projects for academic year 2004-2005 under the
initiative of Mr. Gilore E. Ofrancia with the help of his able partner
Mrs. Edelitha Libuanao-Dancel and with the support of the newly
designated principal, Mrs. Sheridan G. Evangelista:
* Project EASE - Project to Reduce Drop-out Rate under the care of
Mrs. Edelitha Libunao-Dancel.
*Career Fest- a yearly gathering of NHS alumni and friends in giving
talks and sharing their successes to the graduating students. This is
being coordinated with the year level chairman, Mrs. Norma Pacaigue
and year level coordinator, Mrs. Mirasol l. Abordo under the
initiative of Mrs. Edelitha Libunao-Dancel.
*Comprehensive documentation and control of student records in the
guidance office.
*Strengthening the Peer Facilitators Program (COPE) under the support
of the Kabalikat ng Pamilyang Pilipino, Foundation.
*Strengthening of student linkages in and outside the academe such as
other institutions that will bring forth ties and volunteerism.
*Institutionalizing the administration of psychological and
psychometric tests to selected cases/students.
*Promoting a well-rounded atmosphere that will secure the optimum
development of the students
